LongwearingLIpstick

On your wedding day you need to make sure that your makeup stays put!  One thing that can easily come off is lip color, so if you use a gloss or lipstick that doesn’t stick, then you could easily end up looking washed out.  Save yourself the trouble or worries of constantly reapplying your lipstick and go with a longwearing lipstick for your wedding!  My philosophy is that I don’t want to waste any money on something that isn’t fabulous, so although some of the lipsticks below may be more expensive, on your wedding day it is worth it to have a product that works.  Some of my favorites are listed below!

This liquid lipstick is no joke!  It lasts through drinking, eating, kissing, and chatting!  It really does last for many hours without being flakey or bleeding.  The best part about this formula is that when you do go in to kiss your groom, it won’t transfer to him at all because it is not at all sticky. The only drawback is that it is slightly drying with a matte finish, so if you have dehydrated lips then you need to make sure your lips are exfoliated properly.  A really nice color is Patina!

This is a newer product in the US, but beauty bloggers are raving about it!  It is a weightless formula that moisturizes while providing a nice stain. The color payoff is very pigmented, so be careful to not overdo it!  The color LA Exclusive is a nice pink for those with fair to medium skin tones. This is one of the best options for the price, providing a good alternative for brides on any budget.

MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme – $18

This is probably the best mid-range lipstick.  It has a soft, lightweight texture and is not drying, even on my sensitive lips.  The color Overtime is a great “your-lips-but-better” color that will stay put all night and not get sticky or rub off.  One thing to note with MAC – if you have 6 empty MAC products, you can exchange them for a free lipstick!  I am not entirely sure you can do it with this particular formula, but it is good to note for everyone who wants to recycle!

Yves Saint Laurent “Rebel Nudes” Glossy Stain – $35

This is by far my favorite formula of lipstick.  If I could, I would have all of the colors and even a few spare in my car.  These are truly a glossy stain, as you can adjust the color with how many coats you put on your lips.  You can go really light with one coat, or go darker with three coats.  And even if you take off the glossy finish on your lips after applying, the color really stays all day.  Absolutely a luxury, but so worth it!  I’ve had my favorite color, 106 Beige Anarchist, for over a year now and I wear it all the time and I’m not even halfway through.  Before you order it without seeing it, I recommend you trying it out first, as not everyone likes the feeling on their lips.  I am pretty sensitive and it doesn’t bother me, but you should make sure it works for you first.

One thing to note with every longwearing lip stain or lipstick: do a trial run beforehand!  Wear it several times before the wedding to make sure you like the color and don’t have an adverse reaction to the formula, as many can react to a single ingredient in longwearing products that may not be in your average lipstick. Start off by taking a picture of you in your lipstick at the start of your trial run, and then check back every hour or so with another picture.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • How did the lipstick wear on your lips? Has it gone patchy or flaked off?
  • Did you have bleeding / did the lipstick stay where you put it originally?
  • Any sensitivity / redness? (You usually need to try a lipstick more than once for you to see if you are reactive, so try it on a few times before your wedding day)
  • Did it last through eating / drinking?

Applying a lipstick once throughout your wedding night is not that big of an inconvenience, but it certainly isn’t what you’ll be focused on that day. The whole point of the longwearing lip product is to let you not worry about one more thing, and focus on what is really important: you and your new spouse!

Blessings!
